  • On Tuesday, Easterseals Eastern Pennsylvania celebrated its 100th anniversary at Camp Lily on Mount Penn with campers, counselors and local officials joining a party that featured a proclamation— a time capsule burial and games. Board chair Jeffrey Heisey, who credits the camp for building his self-confidence, and Commissioner Rivera marked the milestone as the nonprofit honored its long service to individuals with disabilities.  Reading Eagle

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rhoads Energy, a Lancaster-based energy supplier, has received a state grant of $45,098 to help fund the purchase of two propane-powered Ford F-750 trucks—these vehicles are expected to be delivered in August and will be outfitted with fuel system kits and company branding before deployment.  Reading Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Concerts and festivals are set across the region with major acts performing in Reading and nearby areas. In Reading, comedian Nate Bargatze will perform on August 20 at the Santander Arena and Mariachi Vargas with Julio Preciado will entertain Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Santander Performing Arts Center - other tribute acts and local festivals add to a busy schedule.  Reading Eagle

  • City officials announced that redevelopment of the Berkshire Apartments at 101 N. Fifth St. and the Madison Building at 400 Washington St. is nearly complete but still requires safety and state approvals—while a third project, the former Reading Eagle at 345 Penn St., remains vacant and is for sale at $3.25 million as officials hope a new buyer will revive its mixed-use vision.  Reading Eagle
