  • Berks Encore hosted its first Roper Romp on Saturday in West Reading to benefit Meals on Wheels Berks County as part of its 60th anniversary celebration—participants in red wigs and sunglasses marched downtown. Organizers said more events will follow to continue support for local seniors.  WFMZ-TV

  • Herbein + Co. Inc., a CPA advisory firm in Spring Township, was named one of the Top 100 US accounting firms for 2025 by INSIDE Public Accounting and reached a milestone with net revenue of $60,198,154.  Reading Eagle
  • The Starbucks at Alvernia University’s Reading CollegeTowne on the 400 block of Penn Street will reopen Monday after closing mid-May for a transition with Aramark Collegiate Hospitality & it will operate Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Reading Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • A food festival opened Friday night in Muhlenberg Township and runs through the weekend—featuring classic Italian dishes like homemade lasagna and deep-fried ascolana olives along with games and lively music. The event, hosted by the Saint Marco Society, celebrates Italian heritage and welcomes everyone to enjoy its authentic flavors.  WFMZ-TV
  • Local artist Jim Forrestel opens his solo exhibition After the Storm at Holleran Gallery in West Lawn today and it will run through Aug. 26— his large-scale, vividly colored paintings blend surreal imagery with quiet introspection to create dreamlike scenes.  Reading Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hawk Mountain restored a 20-acre wildflower meadow near its Acopian Center for Conservation Learning along Route 895—this vibrant site now supports nesting songbirds, raptors, butterflies, and native bees while also protecting water quality. The project began in 2019 and shows how land conservation helps local wildlife.  Reading Eagle

  • Eighty-two Keystone Social Club members played in a two-man scramble at Green Acres Golf Course in Hamburg during the annual Keystone Open. Champions Derek Roberts and John JR Molnar won Flight A—beating Matt Schlegel and Todd Kennedy by match of cards with a score of 4 under 66.  Reading Eagle
  • Ross Tucker, a former NFL player and Philadelphia Eagles preseason analyst, will host a live taping of his football podcast at Soul Joel’s in Pottstown from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday — he will also call the Eagles’ home opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday.  Reading Eagle
