- ➤ Isabel, a Pottsgrove mom of three facing health and car troubles, is receiving help from Operation Holiday (now in its 35th year) that supplies food, gift cards, and other essential services through 21 local agencies supporting 199 families with 403 children this season. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Topher’s 10th and Elm Cafe — celebrating 35 years — is donating Christmas dinner ingredient boxes with turkey and sides to 50 families. Interested families can message the restaurant on Facebook until Dec. 18 with recipients announced on Dec. 20. Reading Eagle
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will return to downtown Reading next year with a performance at the Santander Performing Arts Center on Friday, April 10 at 7 p.m. Tickets go on sale Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. for shows starting at $67.50. WFMZ-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Peggy Bowen-Hartung, a beloved psychology professor emerita at Alvernia, died on Dec. 3; university officials say a Celebration of Life Service (in Spring) will be planned to honor her legacy. Alvernia University
- ➤ Students from Exeter and Fleetwood Area school districts tested their engineering skills at BCIU's 3rd Toy Adaptation Day in Muhlenberg Township. The 72 modified toys will be given to special needs elementary students, and planning began in September. WFMZ-TV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Annual PA dog licenses for 2026 are now available online from county treasurers + cost $10.80 for annual or $52.80 for lifetime, with discounts for seniors and disabled dog owners. A 4-H club showcased licensed canine athletes at Orchard Hills Training Center in Barto during an announcing event. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Today, PennDOT removed parking spaces on Hampden Boulevard to help drivers and pedestrians see better — a change following past crashes. Some business owners worry that lost parking will lower customer access while city leaders advise residents to share concerns directly with the state. WFMZ-TV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Reading Hospital Foundation celebrated its record-breaking No-Shave November fundraiser Thursday by raising over $80,000 for men's health at the McGlinn Cancer Institute. - ➤ Alvernia University women’s lacrosse team signed 7-year-old Izzy Rivera in November as part of their first Team Impact partnership. Izzy will join the team for games, practices and events for the next two years while the team opens its 2026 season on Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. against Marymount University. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Donnie Baseball, better known as former Yankees first baseman Don Mattingly, spoke at the 17th annual Holiday Benefit Luncheon on Friday at the DoubleTree in Reading. He highlighted his Major League career — including his praise for Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage — and remains hopeful about his Hall of Fame nomination. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ The Reading Royals host their 13th annual Teddy Bear Toss at Santander Arena on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Fans may bring stuffed animals to donate to One Luv Outreach and Saint Luke's Children's Hospital, with Philadelphia Flyers mascot Gritty joining for Flyers Affiliation Night. WFMZ-TV
