- ➤ Reading’s Christmas on the Mountain opened Saturday at Hillside Playground after high winds delayed Friday’s start — volunteers worked late to finish the 5 million LED light display. - ➤ Ground was broken on Gateway Commerce Center in New Morgan, a planned 5 million square feet industrial park that will include 1.2 million square feet of warehouse space and direct access to Interstate 76 and Interstate 176—its first phase is expected to generate 450 jobs. Panattoni Development Co. leads the project, with construction by Brinkmann Constructors targeted to finish in the fourth quarter and the full park eventually creating 2,750 jobs. Reading Eagle

- ➤ The Reading Choral Society will host the Messiah Community Sing on Dec. 7 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral—430 S. Seventh Ave., West Reading—at 5:30 p.m., where you can bring your own Messiah score or borrow one to sing the Christmas portion including the Hallelujah chorus. This free event is part of the Scottish Rite Holiday Happenings that feature a toy train, Lego displays, a live Nativity scene and a visit from Santa Claus. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Genesius Theatre in Reading will present 'The Behavior of Light,' a new play about art and Pennsylvania written and directed by Douglas Carter Beane. Set in West Reading in 1972, the play will run Friday to Sunday, Dec.12, 13 and 14; Thursday to Saturday, Dec.18, 19 and 20; and Friday and Saturday, Dec.26 and 27 with free parking available (in the lot next to the theatre). - ➤ Local artist Kambel Smith from Exeter Township uses his unique way of seeing the world to create sculptures like The Eagle’s Nest—based on Lincoln Financial Field—using materials such as cardboard, lighting, and plastics. His work has drawn attention from Reading locals and will be shown at an exhibition at Syracuse University in January. WFMZ-TV

- ➤ Cyber charter schools in Pennsylvania will soon follow new laws that require attendance tracking and weekly on-camera check-ins to help keep students safe and ensure they attend class. - ➤ Applications for LIHEAP to help with heating bills open today after a monthlong delay caused by a federal government shutdown — the program will run until April 10 and provides cash and crisis grants to eligible households. - ➤ The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association is launching its new PIAA Radio Network tomorrow with the first of six broadcasts covering state championship football games.
