COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Reading’s local calendar offers many holiday events as The Valley of Reading will present Holiday Happenings at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in West Reading on Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 13-14—featuring toy train and LEGO displays, a live Nativity, a roving magician, nightly Santa visits and a Christmas Bazaar benefiting the Children’s Dyslexic Center. Additional events include a Thanksgiving run on Nov. 27 at Jim Dietrich Park along with library talks, art classes and music concerts scheduled in nearby communities.  Reading Eagle
  • On Sunday, Operation Toy Train visited Topton and Kutztown to drop off and collect toys for the Toys for Tots foundation—its Topton stop has run for three years and even saw the fire department deliver a cart of toys.  WFMZ-TV
  • A Berks family has faced hard times after John was injured at work and his infant son was diagnosed with a rare genetic brain defect, which led to long hospital stays and added financial strain. The family is getting help from the community—Operation Holiday—by receiving grocery and gift card donations to create happier holiday memories.  Reading Eagle
  • Local businesses in Berks County reached their donation goal for Thanksgiving meals on November 23 — they provided funds to help more families enjoy the holiday.  WFMZ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Berks Arts announced that the 35th Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest will run from March 20—29, 2026 with longtime favorites and new artists performing at multiple local venues. The festival will start on March 20, 2026 with a luncheon at the Peanut Bar Restaurant in Reading and continue with concerts at the Scottish Rite Cathedral and DoubleTree.  Reading Eagle
  • The Wheatland Chorale will perform 'A Rose in Winter' on Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, where they blend traditional carols with fresh arrangements to bring holiday cheer — tickets cost $25 for general admission, $20 for groups, $10 for students, and free for children under 12. Other cultural events include Reading Civic Theatre’s run of 'Annie' on several December dates and holiday art exhibits at the Yocum Institute and Studio B.  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Polish American Heritage Association of Berks County will award a $2,500 Polonia project scholarship to a Berks County senior of Polish descent who submits a project on Polish history, culture, or traditions by March 15 at the Polish American Cultural Center at Room 509, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, 201 Washington St - Reading. Applications are available at high school guidance offices or by calling Chris Curtis at 484-256-9603.  Reading Eagle

  • The Berks County Coroner’s Office is seeking help to locate the next of kin for a Reading man—officials ask anyone with information to come forward.  WFMZ-TV
