  • Local 2022 Oley Valley graduate EliAnna Bermudez received the 2025 Youth Volunteer Corps Distinguished Alumni Award at a ceremony in Kansas City on November 8—she is honored for her leadership in volunteer work both abroad and here at home.  Berks Weekly
  • On Nov 2, nearly 90 participants—including 14 veterans and eight adaptive athletes—joined IM ABLE Foundation’s inaugural Ruck & Roll event at Blue Marsh Recreation Area to raise funds for veteran programs. Participants chose between rucking with weighted packs or adaptive rolling and helped launch Operation Supply Drop to support veterans facing food insecurity.  Reading Eagle

  • Bally Ribbon Mills secured a $2 million state loan that helped it buy a 126,884-square-foot warehouse in Bally—arranged with support from the Greater Berks Development Fund and Truist Bank. The 10-year loan at 4.25% supports the company’s efficiency and growth.  Reading Eagle
  • Berks County's oldest family-owned jeweler, Gipprich Jewelers, is celebrating 80 years today by donating all proceeds from watch battery sales—managed by third-generation owners Richard and Amy—to support the Greater Mifflin Food Pantry. The shop, founded in 1945 on Lancaster Avenue in Shillington, has built a reputation on treating each customer like family.  Berks Weekly

  • Debbie Truckermiller of Exeter Township won $1 million from Powerball after buying her ticket at Giant on Nov. 1 and received her check on Thursday, Nov. 13. She said her win has been a whirlwind + she will fix her home, pay her kids' loans, and take a long trip next summer.  Reading Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Berks County Veterans Affairs director Jay Ostrich and deputy director Will Tobin will testify in Harrisburg on Monday, November 17 to support PA House Resolution 157, urging Congress to pass H.R. 1947 to expand SGB therapy for veterans with PTSD. They will share their personal experience with the treatment (an injection that helps control the fight or flight response) during the hearing.  Berks Weekly
  • PennDOT District 5 released its schedule of roadwork in Berks County that will delay travel as crews remove litter on Boundary Line Road in Centre Township and patch potholes on PA 183 in Bern Township from November 17 to November 21. In Hamburg Borough, utility crews will work on PA 61 from November 14 through today—drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.  Berks Weekly

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Pink Ribbon Week Charity Challenge at Berkshire Country Club raised over $85,000 for Breast Cancer Support Services in October—supporting crucial programs for residents with breast cancer. Since 1994, the club has raised more than $1.19 million—helping fund essential services for those affected by the disease.  Reading Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Conrad Weiser and Abington Heights will play today at 10 a.m. at Northeastern High School in Manchester in the Class 3A state final for boys soccer. Both teams will compete for their first state title—a significant milestone for each school—and aim to make history.  Reading Eagle
  • 7-year-old Izzy from Wernersville signed with Alvernia University's women's lacrosse team in a Team Impact signing held Thursday night—she has overcome a congenital heart defect and a serious infection that led to a stroke.  WFMZ-TV
  • Kutztown University’s undefeated Golden Bears—who clinched the PSAC East title with a 49-6 win—will host IUP at noon today in the championship game. Coach Jim Clements reached 100 wins—an important milestone—as Kutztown aims for a three-peat while IUP, with a 7-2 record, meets them for the first time since Sept. 11.  Reading Eagle
