  • On November 10, 2025, ACECO donated over 100 towels to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County to help cover a shortage caused by illness and a collector case that ruined many towels—ensuring the shelter maintained its daily animal care operations.  WFMZ-TV
  • A local veteran is helping other veterans with disabilities live independently by offering in-home care, state insurance work, and companionship through his organization—Right at Home, which now supports about 20 veterans from multiple eras.  WFMZ-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Reading City Hall is hosting a free business opportunity meeting on Nov. 13 from noon to 2 p.m. for local business owners to learn about city contracts, cooperative purchasing, and bidding opportunities — the event will also allow attendees to network with municipal staff and enjoy light refreshments.  Reading Eagle
  • On Veterans Day, Reading & Northern Railroad unveiled its first diesel locomotive with a patriotic design to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026—engine #1776 features red and white stripes with a blue cab highlighted by 13 stars, and the paint scheme was designed by team member Evan Kerr. The passenger department is planning special excursion events in 2026 that will include the new engine on trains hauling coal and other goods.  Berks Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brandywine Heights Area School District dedicated Veterans Day to honor veterans—disrupting the usual school routine with songs, speeches and art—and invited veterans to share their experiences with students. U.S. Army Veteran Cliff Kerchner received the Patriot Award from state Rep. David Maloney and said he was moved by the students’ respect for those who served.  WFMZ-TV
  • BCIU has relaunched its Career Ready Berks platform to help students, educators, and local employers connect for job shadowing, internships, and workplace tours. The updated website uses new tools and business contacts — making it easier to meet state career readiness benchmarks and link classroom learning with real work opportunities.  Reading Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Reading City Park hosted a Veterans Day service—honoring local veterans in cold, windy weather. Officials including state rep Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz and City Council President Donna Reed stressed the community’s duty to support those who served.  WFMZ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Berks native Brendan Morgan began his 341-mile run on November 8 to raise funds for mental health support and is running 60 miles a day from Pittsburgh to Washington Crossing; he will pass through West Reading today — his progress is tracked online.  Reading Eagle
  • The Pennsylvania Department of Health is alerting families that 13 infant botulism cases have been linked to ByHeart Whole Nutrition Infant Formula, including one case where an infant was hospitalized in October. The FDA investigation is ongoing and parents are advised to stop using formula from lot numbers 206VABP/251261P2—206VABP/251131P2 with a use by date of December 1, 2026.  Berks Weekly

  • Albright College Athletics announced a new men’s ice hockey team that will join the Middle Atlantic Conference and start in winter 2026 — raising its varsity sports to 27. Jeff German was named head coach today — he brings 12 years of coaching experience from Denison University.  Berks Weekly
  • On Tuesday, Oley Valley lost 3–2 to top-seeded Susquenita at Elco High School in the PIAA Class 1A semifinals — the Lynx fought hard despite an early goal deficit. Susquenita will play Boiling Springs for the state title on Saturday — a key game as they vie for the championship.  Reading Eagle
  • Albright College announced Monday that it will add men’s ice hockey as its 27th varsity sport with Jeff German named as head coach—play will start in winter 2026 as the team joins the Middle Atlantic Conference.  Reading Eagle
