  • Hope Rescue Mission is hosting the Patriot 5K on November 8 at Gring’s Mill Recreation Center—2083 Tulpehocken Road in Spring Township—to raise funds that support shelter, meals, job training, and stability for homeless veterans. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m., and walkers are welcome.  Reading Eagle
  • Part of Stonecliffe Recreation Area in Reading has reopened for public use (visitors can now return to enjoy the facility).  WFMZ-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters arrived at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday at Ritchie Logging & Sawmill, 9340 Old Route 22 in Bethel Township to battle a blaze that quickly burned the wood shavings production building to the ground—crews spent three more hours putting out hot spots and no one was hurt.  Reading Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wind advisory was in effect from 7 PM last night until 7 AM today in Berks County as west winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph blew loose objects—leading to fallen tree limbs and minor power outages that urged extra caution from drivers.  WFMZ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tulpehocken defeated Juniata 4 to 0 on Tuesday night in the PIAA Class 2A boys soccer tournament with four players scoring and goalie Landon Hoffert keeping a shutout— they will play District 7 champion Deer Lakes in the quarterfinals on Saturday at a time and site to be determined.  Reading Eagle
  • Conrad Weiser beat Thomas Jefferson 4-1 on Tuesday at Robesonia in the PIAA Class 3A opening round, keeping their undefeated home record. The Scouts will face Franklin Regional in the quarterfinals on Saturday — details on time and location are pending.  Reading Eagle
  • On Tuesday, Oley Valley won 5-0 over Central Columbia in the first round of the field hockey playoffs as Emma DeBalko and Megan Kelly each scored two goals—The Lynx will face Faith Christian in the quarterfinals on Saturday with time and site to be determined.  Reading Eagle
