  • Former ambassador and Princeton professor Daniel C. Kurtzer will speak on Middle East policy at Albright College tomorrow at 7 p.m.—his free lecture is open to the public.   • Oak View Group said it will upgrade Santander Arena with new digital screens, renovated restrooms, improved security, and self-checkout kiosks—moves designed to boost fan comfort before its 25th Anniversary in 2026.  Berks Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elementary students from Tyson-Schoener learned about golf course science and real-world engineering during a field trip at Berkshire Country Club on Oct. 27th. Teacher Kara Zubaty (a key organizer) guided the students as they explored topics like golf ball physics and water reuse for green grass (a project of the First Green program).  Reading Eagle
  • Albright College held its Homecoming and Family Weekend 2025 with a high-energy pep rally and a football win that excited students, alumni and families—more than 1,500 people attended the event. The weekend featured a carnival, food trucks and a large bonfire that highlighted the college's renewed spirit—leaders said the celebration promised a bright future.  Berks Weekly
  • Reading Public Library announced Paul and Karen Oxholm as the Annual Appeal Chairs for its 2025 campaign — a decision that honors their longstanding volunteer work with local nonprofits — and the drive will raise $65,000 to support free library programs including early literacy, after school activities, and senior outreach.  Berks Weekly

  • Dr. Kendra Winter at Reading Hospital’s McGlinn Cancer Institute helps breast cancer patients regain a good life by combining expert surgery and personal care—she even shares her cell number for extra support.   • The Animal Rescue League of Berks County and Upper Bern Township will host a pet vaccine clinic for dogs and cats at Shartlesville Community Park on Oct. 30 from 3 to 5 p.m.—a measure taken after a rabies case was confirmed in the township this month.  Reading Eagle
  • The Animal Rescue League (ARL) in partnership with Upper Bern Township will host a vaccine clinic for dogs and cats on October 30th from 3 to 5 p.m. at 40 North 4th Street (Shartlesville Community Park) after a confirmed rabies case was found; officials say Berks County now has the highest number of rabies cases in Pennsylvania and stress the need for pet vaccinations.  Berks Weekly
