- ➤ Volunteers helped widowed Kutztown resident Daphne by building a pergola, resealing her driveway, and doing other yard work on Oct. 25. Local church members worked as part of Keystone Family Alliance — a group that aids families — and Both Hands to secure sponsors that raised funds for her repairs. Reading Eagle

- ➤ On Saturday evening, music lovers attended Berks Sinfonietta’s 'Music in C' concert at Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing, where works by Farrenc, Mozart and Handel were featured. - ➤ The Reading-Berks Chapter of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen held its 75th Juried Holiday Fine Art and Craft Festival at Kutztown University’s O’Pake Fieldhouse on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.—the event showcased traditional and contemporary works by artisans from Pennsylvania and beyond, offered musical performances and food for sale, and charged a $6 donation while children 12 and under entered free. - ➤ On Saturday evening, music lovers filled Atonement Lutheran Church in Wyomissing for Berks Sinfonietta’s Music in C concert, which featured works by Mozart, Handel, and Louise Farrenc (a long-overlooked French composer) and ended with a standing ovation. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ PennDOT announced that roadwork is starting in Berks County, with pothole patching on Spring Street in Reading and maintenance on PA 501 in Bethel Township set for Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.—other projects in Bern, Maxatawny, and Penn townships will follow with similar lane restrictions and flagging. - ➤ Gary Rightmire of Berks Community Health Center was honored with the APEX Award for Board Excellence and Service for his long career in expanding health care access—his decades of work in social services and public welfare have shaped local health initiatives. Berks Weekly

- ➤ Three Berks boys soccer teams advanced to the District 3 Class 2A semifinals after winning their quarterfinal matches on Saturday—Oley Valley and Schuylkill Valley will host their upcoming games on Tuesday while Tulpehocken plays away, and the semifinal winners will later face off for the district title. - ➤ On Saturday, Oley Valley defeated Berks Catholic 1-0 in the district field hockey quarterfinal when Madison Parisan scored the only goal, earning a semifinal spot with a Wednesday home game against Camp Hall while Berks Catholic moved to the consolation bracket. Lower Dauphin won an overtime match in Class 3A field hockey, Mechanicsburg edged Exeter in girls soccer with a second overtime goal from Isabelle Putt, and Brandywine Heights advanced to the Class 1A championship with a 3-2 win. - ➤ Oley Valley senior Ryan Gourley defended his District 3 Class 2A cross country title Saturday in Newville by finishing the 5,000-meter race in 15:42.7—more than a 20-second lead over his closest competitor. Several Berks runners have also qualified for the PIAA Championships on November 1 in Hershey. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Seven Berks teams qualified for the District 3 football playoffs with Berks Catholic, Twin Valley, Wyomissing and Wilson earning byes; teams in Classes 3A, 5A and 6A will play scheduled games starting Friday at 7 p.m.—Berks Catholic will face the winner of the Big Spring-Bermudian Springs game on Nov. 7. In Class 5A, Exeter hosts Lower Dauphin while Muhlenberg takes on Spring Grove at the same time, and in Class 3A Schuylkill Valley plays Trinity. Reading Eagle
