- ➤ Community fundraising events will take place in the coming days around Reading—among them, the 21st annual Fitzy’s Halloween 5K Run on Oct. 26 at West Reading Playground to benefit Lauren’s Foundation, a juried art and craft festival at Kutztown University on Oct. 25 to Oct. 26, and a bingo fundraiser on Nov. 2; other events include a holiday pie sale at Mifflin Community Library, a dog rescue reunion on Oct. 25 in Reinholds, a bazaar on Nov. 1, turkey supper and yard sale on Oct. 31 to Nov. 1, a bicycle food drive on Oct. 25, a fall apron workshop on Oct. 26, and a basket raffle on Nov. 1. - ➤ On Sunday, Mayor Eddie Morán honored salsa artist Tito Nieves by temporarily renaming the 100 block of North 6th Street 'Tito Nieves Way' before his performance at Santander Performing Arts Center—celebrating his 50-year music career. - ➤ Reading officials confirmed that Bushong Dam, a 150-year-old stone structure on Tulpehocken Creek, was removed to help fish move upstream.
