CULTURE NEWS

  • Olivet Reformed United Church of Christ and St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ will hold a special Holy Communion service today at 9:15 a.m. at Olivet—marking the 300th anniversary of the first German Reformed Church communion in America—while other local churches host fall festivals, trunk or treats, and community bazaars.  Reading Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Reading chapter of Sisters Network held a fundraising gala Saturday night in Berks County to honor breast cancer survivors and help people learn about early cancer screening. Founder Karen Eubanks Jackson and chapter president Dorraine Holbert urged locals to get tested — sharing free help and information to save lives.  WFMZ-TV

  • Berks County real estate transactions recorded today show transfers with sale amounts ranging from $1 to over $1 million and some properties with no money exchanged—these deeds are filed as public records at the recorder’s office.   • Conestoga Valley rallied from a 17-7 deficit by scoring two late touchdown passes from Sawyer Esbenshade to Jayden Conaway, winning 21-17 over Exeter on Friday night. The Buckskins remain undefeated at (9-0) and will face Muhlenberg in their regular season finale.  Reading Eagle
  • Daniel Boone won its first game of the season with a 26 to 23 victory over Northern Lehigh on Friday night as Haydn Moyer ran for 190 yards and Dominic Stoudt scored with both runs and a 7-yard touchdown pass. Wilson beat McCaskey 56 to 0 and Muhlenberg edged Academy Park 42 to 37—results that set up a championship showdown for Wilson and a crucial home game for Muhlenberg as the season nears its end.  Reading Eagle
  • The Wyomissing Spartans beat Octorara with a score of 49 to 8 on Saturday at Wyomissing as 13 players rushed for a total of 332 yards and key touchdowns came from Justice Hardy and Marcus Armstead. The team will finish its regular season on Friday night at Lampeter-Strasburg before starting District 3 Class 4A tournament play.  Reading Eagle
  • The Berks Rugby girls team has been invited to play in Italy — a sign of the sport's growing popularity — and will travel there to compete in international games.  WFMZ-TV
  • Annville Cleona beat Schuylkill Valley 14—7 and Berks Catholic beat Hamburg 38—7, giving both teams 6—0 league records. They will meet at Berks Catholic at 7 p.m. Friday for the Lancaster—Lebanon League Section 5 title.  Reading Eagle
