CULTURE NEWS

  • A new exhibition at the Freyberger Gallery showcases art made by Penn State Berks students and faculty and is sponsored by the PSU Berks Art Club; the show, called Signature (running until Nov. 12), features paintings, drawings, sculptures and mixed media that honor creative voices. The exhibit revives a campus tradition once centered in the commuter lounge and builds a renewed connection through art.  Reading Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • September ended as one of the 10 warmest months in Berks with a 70.2° average at Reading Regional Airport, no 90-degree day and 20 days reaching 80°. A storm brought 2.06 inches of rain on the 4th and the month saw a record high of 87° on the 28th amid below normal rainfall overall.  Reading Eagle

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Berks County recorder office recorded many property transactions today including transfers with no listed price because no money was exchanged. Public records show deal values from $1 to $6 million—filings that are subject to a publication delay.  Reading Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • In Friday night games—Schuylkill Valley beat Columbia 17-14 on a 27-yard field goal by Reese Wamsher and Conestoga Valley defeated Gov. Mifflin 51-21 with four touchdowns from Josiah Garcia. Garden Spot won 17-10 over Conrad Weiser on a two-yard run by Gabe Martin and Pequea Valley beat Hamburg 31-21 with strong plays from Lebran Woods and Drew Tibbins.  Reading Eagle
  • A new women's tackle football team in Berks County (with its cool logo) is forming to give local players a chance to take the field and show hits and heart, and practices will start soon.  WFMZ-TV
