ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, a PennDOT line painting truck experienced a hose failure while turning at the intersection of Route 422 / W. Penn Avenue in Robesonia — spilling a large amount of paint onto N. Church Street with most of the residue cleaned up and officials expecting the remaining paint to wear off through the winter. WFMZ-TV

- ➤ On Oct 2 at 9 p.m., Mike’s Tavern in Riverside screened Rabbit, Run—filmed in Reading with scenes of familiar local landmarks—and local viewers stayed afterward to discuss its themes. Reading Eagle
- ➤ GoggleWorks marked its 20th anniversary today with a ribbon cutting for the new Thorn Alley Stage, a transformed alley that now seats up to 250 guests and will host concerts and creative workshops. Local leaders and community members attended a free concert by SNACKTIME and joined a roundtable on community development—planning future events including a new restaurant set to open next year—aiming to revitalize the arts center. - ➤ Election officials said the first batch of about 20,000 mail ballots are being sent to Berks voters who requested them and will soon arrive in mailboxes—voters can fill out their ballots and return them by mail, drop box, or in person on Nov. 4. Drop boxes are set up at the county services center on 633 Court St., at the county South Campus on 400 E. Wyomissing Ave., and at Reading Regional Airport and are guarded by sheriff’s deputies. - ➤ Steven Lara, general manager of the White House Day Care in Reading, warned that low wages have led to severe staffing shortages plus forced closures at child care centers in Berks County and across the state, leaving many families without needed care. He urged lawmakers to increase funding so that over 25,000 more children can receive care and parents can return to work. Reading Eagle

- ➤ Food safety inspectors in Berks County found insect activity in the kitchens of two restaurants—Hong Kong and Pollo’s Don Juan 2—during inspections from Sept. 16 to Sept. 30, and several vendors also showed issues like slime buildup on ice machines that have been corrected or are under review. - ➤ On Friday, Berks teams played in seven football games with Exeter beating Muhlenberg 42 to 12 and Twin Valley winning 49 to 0 at the third quarter. Thursday night games showed Wyomissing winning 55 to 6 and Lampeter-Strasburg winning 59 to 13—results that highlight the varied performances in local football matchups. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Oley Valley beat Twin Valley 2—1 in overtime on Thursday when Madison Parisan scored the winning goal. Wilson won 5—0 over Exeter, Berks Catholic defeated Conrad Weiser 4—0 and Wyomissing beat Brandywine Heights 6—0. Reading Eagle
- ➤ On Friday, Twin Valley beat Donegal 49-14 after building a 42-0 lead by halftime, with key plays from quarterback Maverick Foster and running back Ben Grundy. The undefeated Raiders now prepare to face unblemished Wyomissing on Oct. 11 at 1:30 p.m. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Braeden Stringer from Berks Catholic leads the AA boys tournament by one stroke with a score of 69 while Abby McCaffrey from Schuylkill Valley holds a four-shot lead in the AA girls after Friday's round at Honey Run Golf Club in York—final rounds for both AA and AAA will be held today.
