GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Justice Department sued California, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania after the states refused to provide full voter registration data (including names, birth dates, addresses, licenses and Social Security digits) needed to ensure accurate rolls. This move follows similar actions against Oregon and Maine as the department seeks to enforce federal law on voter records. Reading Eagle
- ➤ The Berks County Commissioners held a Thursday meeting to mark National Recovery Month by inviting officials and recovery clients to share their stories and discuss the impact of ongoing support programs. - ➤ Officials in South Heidelberg Township report that developers plan to build two large warehouses near Krick Lane and Mellowbrook Drive with areas over 1 million and 300,000 square feet and that the projects have been submitted for review by the planning commission. Township Manager Sean McKee said residents are encouraged to attend a public meeting on October 7 at 7 p.m.—the development could raise over 20% of the township’s revenue and help stabilize local taxes. - ➤ Gov. Josh Shapiro said on Monday that Pennsylvania has issued new vaccine rules to clear up mix-ups at the federal level, telling residents to follow advice from trusted medical groups and get COVID-19 and flu shots at pharmacies.
