BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Developers withdrew their plans for a 739,000-square-foot warehouse along Route 10 in Cumru Township last August—Brian Johnson of Mail Shark now owns the site and is talking with a developer about an AI data center project. Township Commissioner Greg Miller said a new developer will study if there is enough power and that the project will not raise residents' electricity bills before moving forward. Reading Eagle

- ➤ Next Saturday, the Cultural Series Team at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fleetwood will host a Southern Gospel concert by 2nd Chance Ministries at 6 p.m.—tickets cost $15 in advance, $18 at the door, and $5 for children ages 5 to 12. Reading Eagle
- ➤ GoggleWorks is seeking the Levitt Music Series Grant — if approved, it will fund seven to 10 free concerts in Reading. WFMZ-TV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers are considering plans to cut power to data centers during emergencies because the centers may overwhelm local electricity grids. PJM Interconnection and other operators in the mid-Atlantic region will soon decide if these centers must use backup power or face disconnection — a measure that could affect tech investments. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Reading Area Community College purchased a multibuilding property in downtown Reading on Aug. 1 for $995,000, which includes the historic former Keystone Fire Company firehouse dating to 1896—school officials confirmed there are no concrete plans for renovations or new programs. The property spans 22,400 square feet of building space and a 59-car parking lot and will not be torn down. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Fleetwood Area High School named Tessa Pflum and Olivia Walker as September Students of the Month—each has participated in many clubs and community service activities while planning for college. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Alvernia University received the Silo Buster Award from the Blackbaud Impact Awards for using RENXT — a data system that united its advancement, alumni, and academic teams. The university will speak about its success at a tech conference in Philadelphia this October. Alvernia University
- ➤ The Oley Valley school board is set for a shake-up in the Nov. 4 election—six seats are open and only two incumbents remain—and candidates will work to fix past controversies and tackle budget deficits and teacher shortages. - ➤ City officials in Reading warned that a recent presidential order may change federal rules on $3.5M in unused HOME-ARP funds for affordable housing while council debated whether to rebid the money or let Opportunity House pursue a 20-unit apartment project—officials plan to meet with the nonprofit soon to decide next steps. - ➤ Motorists traveling through the Morgantown Interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike will face an overnight closure from midnight until 6 a.m. Sunday, September 14 as crews remove the overhead toll gantry—part of the ongoing transition to Open Road Tolling. State Police and Turnpike personnel will assist drivers with detours throughout the closure. Berks Weekly
- ➤ The Morgantown interchange at Exit 298 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Berks will be closed from midnight to 6 a.m. Sunday as crews remove the overhead toll gantry to support the new Open Road Tolling system—drivers are advised to use the next exit. Reading Eagle

- ➤ On Friday night, the Wilson Bulldogs rolled to a 49-0 win over Reading High in their first Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 game. Jaiden Carpenter and Correll Akings scored key touchdowns—helping the team set an early pace before the game was wrapped up under the Mercy Rule in the second half. Reading Eagle
- ➤ NHRA Top Fuel champion Brittany Force said Friday she will end her fulltime racing at the season's end to start a family — she made the announcement at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton with her father John Force and teammates and is set to compete today in Reading as she aims for the championship. - ➤ On Thursday, high school soccer games saw Fleetwood win 5-2 over Twin Valley with C.J. Sallee scoring two goals and Conrad Weiser beat Exeter 3-0 with a hat trick. Daniel Boone won 3-0 over Gov. Mifflin, Kutztown won 1-0 over Oley Valley, Schuylkill Valley beat Hamburg 4-0, Brandywine Heights beat Antietam 8-1, and Wilson beat Reading High 3-0—making it a busy day in Berks soccer.
