- ➤ Reading Mayor Eddie Moran announced Friday that the city will host a support drive for residents displaced by Wednesday’s three-alarm fire on North Fifth Street, which affected 38 people including 10 children. Donations of new clothing, shoes and gift cards will be accepted Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading hotel + drop-offs are welcome at any Reading firehouse. Reading Eagle

- ➤ Reading Area Community College's nursing program was named the second-best in Pennsylvania by a national nursing organization—its flexible class schedules and hands-on clinical training help prepare students for entry-level nursing positions. Reading Eagle
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mayor Eddie Moran announced on Friday that Police Chief Elias Vazquez stepped down for personal reasons — his leadership helped lower crime, and Deputy Chief Javier Ruiz was named acting chief. Captain Aaron Denko will be promoted to deputy chief and Deputy Chief Lou Shade has been recommended as a strong candidate for permanent chief. Berks Weekly

- ➤ Most Mondays until October, Boot Scootin’ Becky leads a line dance at Island Pizza near Birdsboro from 7 to 10 p.m., giving locals a fun way to get in 10,000 steps and stay active.
