COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Muhlenberg Township’s RiverFest ended its weekend with a Duck Derby and raised over $50,000 + the event supports the Adalyn Rose Foundation that helps families coping with child or baby loss. The fundraiser drew 2,300 participants who raced their rubber ducks with support from Redner's Warehouse Markets and Diamond Credit Union.  WFMZ-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • The Berks County Sheriff's Department seeks help finding two fugitives—Juan DeJesus-Vega, 40, last seen on the 1300 block of Perkiomen Avenue after allegedly stealing $2,000 on May 29, and Dawn Drexler, 51, last seen on the 6000 block of Old Route 22 after allegedly using a card to make $180 in unauthorized purchases on May 9.  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elizabeth Hoffert of Spring Township received a $5,000 scholarship from the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation on August 24. She, a Hill School graduate from Pottstown chosen among 15 recipients for academic achievement and community involvement, will attend Colgate University to study economics — her mother works as a warehouse optimization manager in Leesport.  Reading Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT is working on several road projects this week—pothole patching on Route 183 from suburban road in Bern Township to Summer Mountain Road in Bernville, repairs on the Route 737 ramp at Interstate 78, drainage fixes on Centennial Road, and shoulder work and widening on Interstate 476—all set for Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Reading Eagle
  • The Berks County coroner’s office is seeking next of kin for Daniel P. Peletsky, 44, whose last known address was 430 N. Second St. in Reading and who also lived on West Market Street in Pottsville—anyone with relevant information is urged to call 610-478-3280.  Reading Eagle

  • Wilson defeated Emmaus 2-1 in a non-league girls soccer match on Saturday. Ava Mischler scored two goals and goalie Alanna Keller made 7 saves for Wilson—while Ella Sharper scored in the second half for Emmaus.  Reading Eagle
