  • Jim Boscov, chairman of Boscov’s Department Store and Our City Reading Inc., was named the 2025 BCIU Outstanding Community Partner Award recipient for his decades of leadership and community service in Reading. CRIME NEWS

  • Virginia man Richard Edgar was arraigned Thursday on 19 counts for stalking a Berks County woman and making false child abuse reports in Caernarvon Township after calls on Aug. 17, 19, and 20—he now remains in Berks County Jail without bail.  Reading Eagle
  • Family members of Travelle Martin—wanted on felony assault charges—requested help from Berks officials after he disappeared from a Flying Hills home on Jan. 2, while police continue searching for him.  Reading Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Council on Chemical Abuse approved $889,405 from the Berks County Opioid Settlement Fund on August 19 to fund programs that treat and prevent opioid use disorder in Berks. The funds will support projects like workforce development, bilingual outreach and naloxone access at the Reading YMCA — while also providing treatment services in the jail system and for families.  WFMZ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Conrad Weiser won 29—22 over Abington in Friday's season opener by sticking to basic plays and using a strong running game. Coach Al Moyer said the team played with unity despite losing key players last season while Brayden Sweitzer and Javien Rivera led the rush.  Reading Eagle
  • Aidan Miller, the Reading Fightin Phils’ shortstop prospect, blasted two homers in an 8—4 win over the Altoona Curse at PNG Field in Lakemont on August 22. He finished 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored and is batting .249 with 12 home runs this season.  Reading Eagle
