- ➤ Storytelling Through Dance staged the community play 'HHH' on the steps of Reading Public Library on Saturday, July 26, drawing over 100 local viewers. The play used drama, ventriloquism, and dance to present a near-murder mystery during a mayoral debate—an annual collaboration with Barrio Alegría. Reading Eagle
- ➤ On July 25, the Reading YMCA held its Christmas in July celebration at the downtown branch where 70 students received refurbished laptops and tablets from Human I-T thanks to a $10,000 AT&T donation. Fifty laptops were given to students in grades 3-12 while 20 tablets with protective covers went to kindergartners through third grade. Reading Eagle

- ➤ Reading City Council decriminalized possessing less than 30 grams of marijuana by setting fines of $100 for a second offense and $150 for later offenses, along with a $150 fine for smoking in public (the rule is a change in local law enforcement policy). WFMZ-TV
- ➤ City officials said Reading cannot inspect rentals as often as needed and warned that at least three row homes have partially collapsed this year—residents are advised to follow simple steps to spot early signs of problems. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ Six years passed since Code inspectors last visited the building at 501 North 8th Street before its south wall collapsed in July, and city officials say staffing and funding shortages have delayed inspections of rentals that must occur every two to five years — residents are urged to check for signs of distress like cracks and moisture and to call the Citizens Service Center if needed. The planned inspection this August will be rescheduled as the city works to address these challenges. Berks Weekly
- ➤ The Berks County Coroner’s Office is asking local residents to help find the next of kin for two people who died at Reading Hospital from natural causes (families with information are urged to contact the office). WFMZ-TV

- ➤ Berks Community Health Center is hosting free Community Day events during National Health Center Week in Reading for children and families. The center will hold events on Wednesday, August 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. at its Oakbrook location at 1040 Liggett Avenue, and on Saturday, August 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 838 Penn Street—while a fundraiser is set for Friday, August 8 at Honeygrow in Wyomissing with the GIVE135 code. - ➤ Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Cardiac Center has opened a satellite clinic in Muhlenberg Township at 5101 Allentown Pike to care for local children with congenital and acquired heart diseases — Dr. Louis Hansrote leads the Allentown team that will see patients on the second Thursday of each month and perform tests like electrocardiography, Holter tests and echocardiography.
