- ➤ R-BAR will host its 6th annual 5K Run for Shelter on October 4 at Gring’s Mill Recreation Area in Spring Township to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity of Berks County and Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Berks Inc.—registration opens at 8 a.m., the race starts at 9 a.m., and the awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m.—in a community event open to all ages. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon after a crash with a pickup truck at the intersection of Penn Avenue and South 2nd Avenue in West Reading — officers responded at 3:07 p.m. and closed the road for accident reconstruction as investigators seek witnesses. Berks Weekly
- ➤ South Heidelberg Township Police are investigating a hit run crash that damaged Hollywood Cleaners at 4700 Penn Avenue on July 2 at 2:23 p.m. when a white truck marked Ryder struck a gas meter, protective poles and the building, causing a gas leak before fleeing the scene. Berks Weekly

- ➤ The Pennsylvania State Police at Troop L in Hamburg conducted a DUI checkpoint over the weekend and spoke with 65 drivers—three were arrested for DUI and one was arrested for drug possession while seven traffic citations and 23 warnings were issued. Berks Weekly

- ➤ The Yocum Institute for Arts Education at 3000 Penn Ave in West Lawn is showing a free exhibit—Mike Miller and Mike Miller: A Print Collaboration—through July 26 that displays work by two local print artists. Reading Civic Theatre will hold a cabaret event in September, the Institute will tour the play Hazel and the Empty Easel in 13 libraries until July 25, and the Santander Performing Arts Center has announced a Symphony Series with concerts from September to November.
