  • The community bulletin board shows local events coming up, including the 45th Annual In-Vette-Tational on Saturday, July 19 at Oley Fire Company Fairgrounds with vintage race cars, auto racing displays, and special guests, and free parking and admission. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • City crews began demolition at 501 N. 8th Street after a partial collapse on July 5 displaced 10 residents and led to evacuations at 503 while utility workers secured the area—officials continue to monitor the site and keep North 8th Street closed to traffic.  Berks Weekly

  • A suspect in Reading was charged with attempted homicide after a knife attack on a victim—investigators said the two did not know each other.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Student-athletes at Albright College will get new, shaded dugouts on the baseball — and softball fields when Bachman’s Roofing donates and completes the installation on Friday, July 11. The improvements will boost comfort and safety ahead of the fall sports season.  Berks Weekly

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At a free roundtable at Berks Nature’s Nature Place at Angelica Creek Park, Reading Public Works Department and nonprofit Green Building Alliance explained how green building methods can cut energy use and costs while modernizing old buildings — they plan more sessions on sustainable upgrades soon.  Reading Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Reading City Council is considering a proposal to reserve residential handicapped parking spaces exclusively for approved local residents—this aims to address complaints that current spaces are used by anyone with a placard.
