- ➤ Members of the Pennsylvania State Association of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks began their 102nd annual convention on Thursday evening at the DoubleTree by Hilton downtown, drawing more than 1,000 attendees for six days of meetings, seminars & celebrations. Berks Lodge #47 and Mary Alice Temple #108 will host the event that is the first time this statewide group has held its convention in Reading. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Six members of Penn State Health Medical Group — Robesonia Family Medicine were honored with the 2024 Citizens Award for their quick and brave help after a two-vehicle crash near Penn Avenue and Big Spring Road in August when one driver later died. The award was given at a meeting on June 17. Berks Weekly

- ➤ The Reading Pagoda's Penny Press machine with Pagoda designs has been moved to City Hall as the landmark undergoes renovations—Kevin Lerch of Pagoda-Skyline said the relocation keeps the souvenir accessible and helps fund minor upkeep measures. The move follows a city-led project that required removing many items from inside the Pagoda. Berks Weekly

- ➤ Anthony Peters, 34, has been named the new head coach and general manager of the Reading Royals after serving as an assistant with the Florida Everblades. - ➤ Wyomissing native Max Hurleman, who went undrafted from Notre Dame, signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers after impressing at rookie minicamp and OTAs and he threw the first pitch at the Reading Fightin’ Phils game on Thursday.
