- ➤ Reading District Libraries will host the Pages for Pets reading challenge from June 23 until July 25 where community members log reading minutes toward a 500,000-minute goal that will unlock a fully-sponsored shelter pet adoption—Animal Rescue League will announce the chosen pet on July 28. - ➤ Humane Pennsylvania announced its Pints for Pups Under the Stars event will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 5—9 p.m. at Danielle Ruiz-Murphy Dog Park in Exeter Township—local vendors will serve craft drinks, food, live music and games to support the charity as advance tickets are urged. - ➤ Gov. Mifflin Community Days 2025 will be held from June 27 through July 5 on the campus of Gov. Mifflin Intermediate School in Cumru Township and features games, rides and food — the festival will host local entertainment each night and end with fireworks on July 5. Reading Eagle

- ➤ State authorities charged two nurses from Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center, Melanie N. Leinbach and Charles S. Brennan, with diverting patient pain medications after AI flagged unusual transactions in the hospital’s dispensing terminal — both turned themselves in Tuesday night before a Reading Central Court judge as they await a hearing. - ➤ Authorities in Berks County said a 15-year-old teen reported missing from Reading in June 2024 was found safe in North Carolina and that suspect Joseph Rossomando has been arrested on charges including human trafficking, kidnapping, statutory rape, and sexual exploitation of a minor (investigators are working to answer remaining questions about how she left Reading). - ➤ Albright College has named its newly renovated Learning Commons the Joyce Family Foundation Learning Commons to honor a big gift from Jeff Joyce ’83, his wife Cindy and the Joyce Family Foundation. - ➤ Reading's city council approved contracts totaling $319,700 to build a 60-by-100-foot ice-skating rink near the Third and Spruce Recreation Center. Officials said the rink will be used for ice skating from December through February — with construction expected to take about four months — and is planned to open for the 2025 winter season.
