  • Trinity Lutheran Church launches its 275th anniversary celebrations with an upcoming Trinity Sunday worship service that welcomes nine new members and a free public organ recital. The historic sanctuary closes today for a $3 million, four-month restoration that repairs the ceiling, Tiffany windows and masonry.  WFMZ-TV
  • The community of Topton held a ceremony Saturday, May 30 to mark its 150th anniversary with historical reenactments, speeches, and a full day of festivities including a vendor fair, block party, and fireworks — residents honored local heritage and neighborly spirit.  Reading Eagle
  • Central Berks Police will honor fallen officer Kristen Yeager tonight when a procession departs Reading Hospital at 8:00 p.m. and travels along Penn Avenue, Route 422 east, and Perkiomen Avenue to Lutz Funeral Home (Yeager died Friday while on duty) as residents are asked to wear blue.  WFMZ-TV

  • On Wednesday, June 3, the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance will host Breakfast4Success – Never, Ever, Ever Give Up – Lessons in Leadership and Resilience at the McGlinn Conference Center, featuring keynote speaker Jay Sidhu from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Members pay $50.  Reading Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Reading Area Fire Museum said its president and former fire chief, Bill Rehr III (known for his work preserving firefighting history), has died. Funeral and memorial service details will be provided later.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 31, the World Affairs Council presented a $5,000 scholarship to Conrad Weiser grad Abubakarr Barrie, who will attend DeSales University in Allentown for international business and soccer, while law firm Bingaman, Hess, Coblentz & Bell awarded $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors Jack McRae and Lilly Massie.  Reading Eagle
  • Graduation highlights include Katherine Buerke receiving highest distinction at Lebanon Valley College while Cedar Crest College and U. of Scranton honored graduates in fields ranging from art therapy to mathematical sciences.
