COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Reading Public Museum announced a pass program for care service nonprofits to visit the museum or Neag Planetarium at $225 for one or $400 for both. Nonprofits may get up to four passes a year that offer free admission for up to four participants (adults or children) per day.  Reading Eagle
  • The Longswamp Township Park and Recreation Board will host the 8th annual Swamp Fest on Saturday, June 13 at Longswamp Community Park in Mertztown (free admission). Families can enjoy live music, children’s activities, historical displays, and an America-themed pyro musical firework finale.  Reading Eagle

BUSINESS NEWS

  • D&S Elite Construction Inc. in Berks County named Allen Butler as president while founder Joseph Delibertis transitioned to chief executive officer — Butler will manage daily operations while Delibertis focuses on long-term strategy. The leadership change positions the firm for growth after a strong year.  Reading Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Reading and surrounding areas offer summer excitement this week; the Reading Public Museum hosts Butterfly Odyssey through Aug. 30 + comedian Brad Williams performs tonight at the Santander Performing Arts Center, while Topton celebrates its 150th anniversary with a vendor street fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Reading Eagle
  • AmericanaFest is a free event at the Berks County Heritage Center on June 20 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The festival will include living history exhibits, a petting zoo, museum tours, demonstrations, and musical performances + hands-on activities throughout the day.  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Bernardine Franciscan Sisters received a $10,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to help the Mother Veronica Adult Education Center at 449 S. Sixth St. in Reading buy new teaching supplies, renew software licenses, and train teachers over the next year.  Reading Eagle
  • Reading School District will let 1,200 incoming ninth graders attend a rotating seminar at the new Innovation Academy (817 N. Ninth St.) to explore career pathways for the 2026-27 school year. The program meets state requirements and supports students' transition to high school.  Reading Eagle
  • The Kutztown Borough Police Department will host its annual Bicycle Safety Rodeo Saturday, June 6 at Kutztown High School from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.— the free event will engage about 150 children and families with hands-on safety training including helmet fitting and traffic skills.  Berks Weekly

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DEP awarded $150,000 to Romark Logistics of PA, Inc. to buy two electric vehicle terminal tractors for Berks County operations. The grant, part of the statewide Alternative Fuel Incentive Grant program, aims to reduce emissions and lower fuel costs.  Berks Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyomissing borough council conditionally approved a 30-unit apartment building at 915 Penn Ave at its May 12 meeting, though the decision may be challenged due to a public notice error (property owners can file appeals until June 22).  Reading Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Junior Karly Hyde scored three goals as Wyomissing edged Twin Valley 6-5 during Tuesday night's BCIAA tournament at Millersville University, clinching their second straight District 3 title. Twin Valley's Ellie Kaplan broke the program’s all-time goal record in the game.  Reading Eagle
