COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Berks County borough said it will host its annual Memorial Day parade on Monday in Mohnton. • Visitors to Blue Marsh Lake this Memorial Day Weekend will face reduced swim times and limited services as maintenance work and a federal hiring freeze cause closures at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area — parking fills quickly and bathrooms, showers, and boat launches will close once capacity is reached — and officials urge everyone to use free life jackets for safety.  WFMZ-TV
  • John 'Hatch' Borneman, president of the local Folds of Honor chapter, explained how Reading residents can support military families by donating and volunteering—he detailed planned initiatives to help those in need.  WFMZ-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • AEC Market, a family-owned grocery store at 32 State Street in Hamburg, opened on Saturday and offered free samples and build-your-own flower bouquets. Owner Alyssa Mengel said a dinner conversation sparked the idea—now the store sells meat, dairy, breads, produce, and flowers from local farmers and small businesses.  WFMZ-TV
  • Dorney Park announced it will postpone Wildwater Kingdom's planned opening on Sunday due to unseasonably cold weather — two revamped attractions will still be offered for visitors.  WFMZ-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Travelers are taking advantage of lower gas prices during Memorial Day weekend as many gas stations in Pennsylvania offer fuel under $3.20 and AAA reports over 39 million people are on the road. Local drivers note prices as low as $3.03 at Sam’s Club — which has made road trips a popular choice despite heavy traffic.  WFMZ-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS
