- ➤ Berks County held its 77th Annual Armed Forces Day Parade Saturday as veterans, current service members and different military branches marched from Wyomissing into West Reading — the procession featured military vehicles, flags and local bands — to celebrate their service and community pride. - ➤ Refresh Berks unveiled its mobile shower unit for people experiencing homelessness Saturday at West Lawn United Methodist Church— the 7,000 pound trailer with two shower rooms will serve the Reading Hospital Street Medicine Team this fall. A $250,000 state grant secured by state Sen. Judy Schwank provided funding for the project. Reading Eagle

- ➤ Karen Klein of Fulcrum Information Resources received the 2025 Sue Rugge Memorial Award for her mentoring work at the AIIP symposium while Barclay Friends named Marina Hacking as senior director of health services and Crissy Bowden as director of philanthropy—attorney Rebecca Shanaman and Katelyn Rohrbaugh were also honored by Barley Snyder and CPBJ, with an awards event set for June 25. - ➤ The Hawk Mountain Arts Tour will take place on June 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature over 40 local artists and businesses in Kempton valley—visitors can pick up printed maps at the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Visitor Center and visit a satellite location at the Hamburg Area Arts Alliance at Etchberger Memorial Park. - ➤ Muhlenberg Township will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony at Jim Dietrich Park on May 26 at 9:00 a.m. to honor fallen heroes with speeches from community leaders, musical performances by local groups, and wreath laying—attendees are advised to bring their own chairs and enjoy light refreshments afterward. - ➤ Three senior centers in Berks County were awarded more than $100,000 in state grants to boost services for older adults. Casa de la Amistad Senior Center received $77,980 while the Mifflin and Reading Wellness and Activity Centers got $9,895 and $12,678 respectively from a $3 million investment by the Department of Aging. - ➤ On Friday, Palmyra beat Wyomissing 16 to 6 and Hershey beat Berks Catholic 19 to 9 in the District 3 Class 2A boys lacrosse tournament, leaving both teams with 9 to 9 records. Palmyra will face the second seed Lampeter Strasburg and Hershey will play the top seed Trinity in the quarterfinals on Tuesday—Twin Valley is now the only Berks team left in the tournament. - ➤ The West Reading All-Stars will travel to California from June 17 to 23 for the 53rd annual Cultural Exchange—playing up to 10 games including a Franklin High School Tournament in Elk Grove and visiting sites like a San Francisco Giants game and Alcatraz Island. Reading Eagle
