  • Reading Housing Authority opened Oakbrook Recreation Park with upgraded baseball and basketball facilities, walking paths, and a picnic grove — hosting its first baseball game today at 4 p.m. and planning a playground with a concession stand in the fall.  Reading Eagle
  • AmeriHealth Caritas held a baby shower Tuesday at its Wellness Center at the former Wells Fargo building—providing expectant mothers with prenatal care advice, nutrition guidance, and gift bags to support healthy pregnancies and raise mental health awareness.  Reading Eagle
  • The Rotary Club of Spring Township is hosting a casino night on Saturday, May 16 at BarnHouse Bar and Venue (31 Hickory Road) where guests will get $2,000 in casino chips to play games and enjoy food, drinks, live music and raffles, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofits.  WFMZ-TV

  • Reading & Northern Railroad will serve its new Iron Horse Coffee Company brew on trains and in its Jim Thorpe café car starting May 22. The offering includes a Colombian blend available in regular, decaf, and seasonal options with hints of chocolate, toffee, and vanilla.  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Berks’ Best 2026 awards have announced 37 finalist high school seniors from 11 categories, including Business, Communications, and Performing Arts. Local schools such as Gov. Mifflin, Exeter, and Wilson each nominated two students with interviews following the judging round.  Reading Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Reading businesses in the CRIZ zone must file an annual tax report for the 2025 tax year by June 15, submitting it to both the state and city. The report is informational only and CRRIZA partnered with an accounting firm to offer free assistance.  WFMZ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Berks girls track teams earned 15 top seeds including dual seeding by Lily Paolini and Julia Leady. The two-day District 3 meet for Class 2A and 3A athletes will begin Friday at Shippensburg University and finish Saturday.  Reading Eagle
  • The Wilson Bulldogs clinched their 14th consecutive county championship by beating Twin Valley 9-3 on Tuesday, May 12 at Alvernia University. Senior midfielder Luke Azzanesi's first-half hat trick helped the team secure a win — boosting their District 3 Class 3A playoff hopes.  Reading Eagle
