- ➤ Rolling Remembrance tour stopped on Friday, May 8 at Papa Johns on North Fifth Street in Reading to honor fallen veterans including John Kelly (a decorated Marine). Papa Johns and PepsiCo donated $5,000 to Children of Fallen Patriots, and leaders, Reading High School ROTC and community groups attended the tribute. Reading Eagle
- ➤ A family in Spring Township is receiving a full accessible home makeover for their 5-year-old son in a wheelchair, organized by Restoring Hope. Volunteers will work on renovations over nine days to open doorways and improve access (set for greater independence) at no cost to the family. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ Beloved Lenora Pair, a Wilson High School student, was honored today at the YMCA’s Breakfast of Champions in Spring Township for her work with The Real Deal 610 supporting teens facing mental health challenges. She plans to attend Morgan State University to help improve care for new mothers. WFMZ-TV

- ➤ Vision Mechanical of West Reading won first place in the GRCA Business Excellence Awards today among the top 50 large companies. President Barry Unger credited strong teamwork and structured planning for helping the company reach a 10-year growth goal in just five years. Reading Eagle
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A planned road closure will affect Route 724 as local officials work on repairs and advise motorists to plan alternate routes. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ A highway stretch connecting Reading and Allentown will begin a new construction phase soon as Long Lane (between Route 222 and Topton Road) closes, forcing drivers onto detours until roundabouts are installed to improve safety; work is expected to finish in September 2027. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ Playground surface work began Tuesday at Reading parks as construction crews use a grant to improve safety for families. Schlegel Park was closed from May 12 to May 27 while Pendora Park, Neversink Park, 3rd and Spring Park and Essick Park will follow in sequential closures over the coming months. Berks Weekly

- ➤ Tower Health launched its Post-Birth Alert Bracelet program at Reading Hospital and Phoenixville Hospital on May 11. The program gives new mothers a water-resistant, bright orange bracelet for six weeks — it alerts providers to postpartum risks and provides patient education. Berks Weekly

- ➤ City officials unveiled the Downtown Housing Initiative to fund vacant upper floors with competitive grants up to $100,000 with a 25% match to create affordable housing & activate downtown. - ➤ This weekend at Shippensburg University, the District 3 Boys Track and Field Championships will see Berks athletes and Oley Valley’s five top seeds compete for automatic spots in next weekend’s PIAA Championships.
