- ➤ Reading's five parks will close one at a time for about 10 days as they get new pour-in-place play surfaces using a $663,000 grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development — work set to finish by mid- to late July. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ Letter carriers collected almost 82,000 pounds of nonperishable food on Saturday as part of the annual Stamp Out Hunger Drive, delivering donations to the Helping Harvest warehouse in Spring Township — volunteers have begun sorting items for distribution and more food will arrive in the coming days. - ➤ On Monday, council approved guidelines for a grant program to let property owners convert unused upper floors on Penn Street into apartments using grants ($25K to $100K) with a 25% match. Council also adjusted meeting room access at city hall and hired Ambius for new atrium decorations. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ Reading officials doubled inspections and citations in 2025 to fight blight while urging residents to take pride in maintaining their properties — officials said during Monday’s council meeting.
