- ➤ A naturalization ceremony on Wednesday at the Berks County Courthouse welcomed 30 new citizens from seven countries amid family support and community pride, with Reading resident Anyele Arias marking the occasion after a long journey that included caring for her children while battling cancer. - ➤ Brook's Breakfast and Lunch Cafe closed today in Amity Township after more than 10 years in business when the owners could not agree on a new lease. They hope to find a new location soon to continue serving the community. WFMZ-TV

- ➤ General Spaatz Museum is selling raffle tickets for four winners to ride in Panchito, a vintage WWII-era B-25 bomber, during the Mid-Atlantic WWII Airshow on Saturday, June 6. - ➤ Berks County District Attorney’s office says school officials report a rise in AI misuse where students (as seen in an Exeter incident) have used social media to share altered images. Authorities stress these cases are under investigation. WFMZ-TV
- ➤ The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection awarded over $1 million in grants as part of its Environmental Education Grants Program, including $4,995 for a pilot project at Alvernia University in Berks County that uses balloon-based air quality research (designed to engage students and local residents). - ➤ Berks Sinfonietta announced winners of its scholarship competition on today, May 1; senior Joshua Griffith and junior Grace Campling each will receive a $500 scholarship and perform at an Aug. 22 concert. - ➤ Reading’s CRIZ program is now reviewing early project applications with three preapplications and one full submission, and city officials expect to approve its first project within the next year (administrative funds nearly exhausted, temporary relief secured from the Greater Berks Development Fund). - ➤ Berks County officials passed a resolution Thursday to invest $12 million in upgrading 9 miles of track and repairing bridges on the Colebrookdale Railroad to avoid a shutdown — a move supported by key commissioners despite one dissenting vote over economic concerns. Reading Eagle
