- ➤ Christine Kreisher (55) leads the Emerging Entrepreneurs Leadership Academy where high school students in Berks County gain real-world business experience through a summer program lasting six weeks, supported by a United Way grant. Her program unites local mentors and volunteers to spark teen entrepreneurship. WFMZ-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kutztown University presented eight Chambliss Student Academic Achievement Awards to graduating seniors on Friday, April 24. The honorees were recognized for excellence in academics, research, artistic performance and athletics (awarded with gold, silver and copper coin medallions) as they prepare for graduation. - ➤ State Rep. Manuel Guzman announced a $1M grant for Reading Area Community College to expand dual-enrollment and workforce development programs; the funds awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and part of the *PA Dual Credit Innovation Grant Program* will boost local student access this summer. - ➤ Berks County college students earned honors for research. Peter Cadiz got a Silver Medal for math publications, Gabriella DeMarco presented coastal marine studies before her May graduation, Tanner Burkholder joined an honor society, and Penn College students won awards at a Toyota Green Grand Prix + a national landscape contest. - ➤ BCTC student entrepreneurs from the afternoon Business Management and Entrepreneurship program pitched their AI-powered communication tech company Proxima to Robert Herjavec at Reading Area Community College during the Schmidt Training and Technology Center's 20th Anniversary. - ➤ PennDOT will conduct multiple road work projects across Berks County this week—construction on I-176 includes 24/7 shoulder closures with daytime lane closures and repairs on US 422 and I-78 may cause delays. Motorists should allow extra travel time and use caution through work zones. Berks Weekly
- ➤ PennDOT is conducting road work in Berks today: Route 724 and Route 568 near Annon St. in Robeson Township are closed until October for a bridge replacement + lane closures and repairs on Route 422 and Maidencreek Road occur from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on select days. Reading Eagle
