  • Opportunity House will not purchase a 20-unit apartment building in Reading — residents who have been at Opportunity Shelter for up to two years will now wait indefinitely for affordable housing, said president Modesto Fiume.  Reading Eagle

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday, a Berks County jury found Jose Pizarro guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of former NFL player Antonio Dennard outside a bar — he was also convicted of aggravated assault and will face a mandatory life sentence.  WFMZ-TV

  • Six Berks County departments relocated from the county Services Center in downtown Reading to a sprawling facility in Mohnton (Laura Hosie settled into her new office Tuesday afternoon) as part of an office move aimed at consolidating operations.  Reading Eagle

  • Opportunity House withdrew its plans to buy an apartment building at 100 South 4th Street to turn it into affordable housing—after repeated debates with Reading City Council over releasing HOME ARP funds.
