  • The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania hosted Tuesday night's Take the Lead ceremony at Redner's Event Center in Reading to honor women who make a difference. Honorees included a VP at Alvernia, Penn State chancellor, a VP at Berks Community Foundation + chief medical officer at Berks Community Health Center.  WFMZ-TV
  • This weekend, an upscale popup consignment shop at Kraras Hall at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church offers local women a chance to sell unworn clothes and find designer brands at lower prices — the event supports local nonprofits and helps fund community projects.  WFMZ-TV
  • Nearly $500K has been awarded to benefit Reading's Olivet Boys and Girls Club through Pennsylvania's Violence Intervention and Prevention program. The EMPOWER Resilience initiative will expand mentoring, job training and after-school programming (for kids ages 5 to 18) to help strengthen local youth.  WFMZ-TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A truck rolled over its trailer near Limekiln Road in Amity Township around 8 a.m. Wednesday, dumping 200 feet of pellet fertilizer on Route 422, and crews worked for about two hours to clean up while stormwater was monitored (no injuries were reported).  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Patton Avenue Learning Center earned a Keystone STARS 4 Star rating at 1000 Patton Ave (Oakbrook) after moving from a 1 Star rating in months. The center serves young children and boosts affordable, high-quality child care as part of Opportunity House’s community effort.  Reading Eagle

  • UGI warns customers today about a rise in scams where fake ads and websites trick people into making unnecessary payments; officials advise calling only 800-276-2722 for billing or service issues and setting up a secure password.  Reading Eagle
  • State Rep. Manny Guzman will host a free job fair Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tec Centro Berks, 450 S. Sixth St. The event will help residents cut red tape & meet local employers ready to hire.  Reading Eagle

  • Hope Springs Clubhouse earned a three-year accreditation from Clubhouse International after a thorough audit and supports young adults aged 16-25 with serious mental health needs in Reading. Operated by Threshold Rehabilitation Services, the program marks its 11-year anniversary.  Reading Eagle
  • Food safety inspectors in Berks County completed routine checks at local vendors between March 25 and April 7, 2026 — reports show varied compliance with one facility noting rodent droppings and other minor violations needing correction.  Reading Eagle

  • Local softball and lacrosse games on Tuesday saw Schuylkill Valley win 13-2 over Tulpehocken with key home runs, while Twin Valley beat Governor Mifflin 11-1 in five innings.
