- ➤ Berks County Community Foundation awarded more than $1.1 million in grants in the first quarter of 2025 - it distributed $1,152,270 in 190 awards to 142 organizations to support projects in environment, education, health, arts and economic development. - ➤ Dozens gathered inside Reading City Hall Tuesday evening to honor more than 200 lives lost in last week’s nightclub roof collapse in the Dominican Republic — the ceremony was moved indoors due to rain and featured a moment of silence, a cappella singing, and displays of candles, flowers, and Dominican flags that united the community. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Voters in Berks County will cast ballots on May 20 to choose candidates for county leadership positions, including a judge vacancy arising from Judge Jeffrey Sprecher's retirement in July. The election will also fill offices for sheriff, coroner, prothonotary, and treasurer with candidates from both major parties. Reading Eagle
- ➤ The Reading airport authority approved an agreement with NetJets to lease a 30,000-square-foot hangar at Bern Township airfield — the new tenant space will soon support NetJets operations. Reading Eagle
- ➤ Berks County voters will select district judges on May 20 for six-year terms with an annual salary of $113,713—judges who issue arrest and search warrants, set bail, and oversee arraignments among other duties. In District 23-1-06, candidates from both major parties are Colleen Dugan Schearer and Jason M. Bowen, while in District 23-2-04 the incumbent David L. Yoch appears on both party ballots.
