BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two PA companies were named to Fortune Media’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list, with Altoona-based Sheetz achieving its highest ranking ever and Chester-headquartered Power Home Remodeling placing 20th, according to the announcement. Sheetz will hire 1,540 workers at over 810 locations (including sites in Berks and Montgomery counties).  Reading Eagle
  • Morgan Truck Body has named Vik Shah as president effective March 30 and Kevin Hoban as senior vice president effective February 16 — Shah brings 30 years of leadership experience from Piston Interiors, and Hoban offers 34 years in the automotive and furniture sectors.  Reading Eagle
  • East Penn Manufacturing + The Wolfson Group opened a 930,000 sqft distribution center on Route 222 near the Schaeffer Road roundabout in Maidencreek Township as one of Berks County's largest employers expanded operations. The facility features 170 loading docks and is large enough for 19.4 football fields.  WFMZ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • GoggleWorks Center for the Arts now hosts Thorn Alley Kitchen, a restaurant serving fresh, locally sourced dishes & creative flavors in a space adorned with handcrafted art. It is open daily with a cafe menu as well as lunch and dinner options.  WFMZ-TV
  • PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission announced Thursday that a special fund license plate featuring the iconic bank barn is now available for vehicles up to 14,000 pounds for $64 (with $23 supporting education programs).  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Carl Sheperis, vice provost and dean at Kutztown University, won the 2026 Arthur A. Hitchcock Distinguished Professional Service Award from the American Counseling Association (ACA) at its conference in Columbus, recognizing his long-standing service to counseling.  Berks Weekly
  • Kutztown University inaugurated its 13th president, Dr. Philip Cavalier, at 2 p.m. in Schaeffer Auditorium — drawing a full house of students, faculty and community members. He will lead plans to develop innovative programs and certificates that support regional growth over the next ten years.  WFMZ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT is conducting roadwork across Berks County through April 20. In Tilden Township, PA 61 will see lane closures from April 13, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., while US 422 in Reading and Cumru and Forgedale Road in District Township have scheduled work—rain may disrupt progress.  Berks Weekly

  • Friday, Daniel Boone’s Owen Howells pitched a six-inning no-hitter for the Blazers in a BCIAA win over Conrad Weiser with a score of 10-0 — while Kutztown, Berks Catholic and Tulpehocken won contests 10-6, 13-1 and 5-3 respectively.  Reading Eagle
  • Reading High's volleyball team secured a thrilling five-set win over Fleetwood on Thursday — Jayvian Rodriguez led with 13 kills while Schuylkill Valley and Exeter each earned wins in separate matches.  Reading Eagle
