  • First Reformed United Church of Christ in Hamburg will install native Rev. Dr. Benjamin Motz as its new pastor on April 12 at 3 p.m. in a special worship service that includes guest speakers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor George Holmes.  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Celebrate Science Day is set for Sunday, May 3 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Reading Regional Airport (Aviation Hangar 521, 24 Liberator Way) as the Reading Science Center presents families with interactive STEM and aviation exhibits, live demonstrations, food trucks and themed characters.  Berks Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Robeson Twp has added a drop box for retiring American flags that are too worn to repair, as suggested by the National Flag Foundation + offering an easy way for residents to dispose of flags properly.  WFMZ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Reading Fightin Phils lost 3-1 to the Akron RubberDucks in their season opener on Thursday night at 717 Credit Union Park (a two-run home run in the third inning gave Akron the lead). The team returns today at 7:17 p.m. for the second game of a three-game series.  Reading Eagle
  • On Thursday, Twin Valley won 17-4 over Owen J. Roberts—with Drew Engle scoring five goals—while Wilson beat Conrad Weiser 16-5 and Wyomissing edged Southern Lehigh 12-10 thanks to Kacey Maggs’ three goals and three assists.  Reading Eagle
  • Berks County basketball star Charlie Copp returns home as an assistant coach for Emory, which will face Mary Washington in the Division III National Championship game on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis & the game will air on ESPN+.  Reading Eagle
