CRIME NEWS

  • A Lancaster man, 29-year-old Moshe Notis, received a three- to 10-year sentence — following an emotional hearing — at the Berks County Services Center in Reading for a 2023 hit-and-run that killed a Berks man along Route 222.  Reading Eagle
  • On Thursday morning, police searched for 33-year-old Axel Caraballo Morales after he fired over a dozen shots at his girlfriend’s vehicle on Jackson Street near Alvernia University, causing lockdowns in several Berks County school districts and raising concerns over his illegal conversion device on a Glock while no one was hurt.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On April 2nd, the Berks County Intermediate Unit awarded Tracey Miller, a Governor Mifflin High School Life Skills Support Teacher, the 2025 Annie Sullivan Award at its ceremony on Commons Boulevard in Reading. She has nearly 30 years of experience helping students with disabilities through innovative programs (like a simulated house for independent living skills) and continues to lead community efforts.  Berks Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials began renovating Reading’s historic Pagoda on April 1 to restore the 117-year-old landmark with repairs to its stonework, new LED lighting, upgraded heating, and improved ADA access. The project is funded by $3 million in ARPA funds plus over $1.7 million in city investment and will finish by year-end — scaffolding will remain until early October and the traditional lighting will go dark on June 1.  Berks Weekly
