  • On March 22nd, the Adalyn Rose Foundation held its 3rd Annual Baby Grand Fundraising Gala at the new Event Center at Fightin’ Phillies Stadium and raised $70,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales, and auctions (including prized signed items). Since 2020, the nonprofit has supported over 750 grieving families and reached a fundraising milestone of over $1 million to provide essential care.  Berks Weekly

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday night, a driver fleeing a traffic stop caused a three-vehicle crash in Exeter Township near Perkiomen Avenue + Lorane Road, injuring eight and closing the road for several hours as state police investigated.  Reading Eagle

  • Emmy Award-winning magician Penn Jillette will deliver the keynote address at the 112th GRCA Annual Dinner at Santander Arena on May 21 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.—an event that honors the businesses of Greater Reading.  WFMZ-TV
  • Construction and development at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts is moving along as executive director Levi Landis outlined plans that include a community kitchen opening next month and the expansion of studio, classroom, exhibition and housing spaces. The project will work with partners and local officials while awaiting final planning commission decisions—adding extra functionality to the mixed-use center.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alvernia University formalized a dual admissions agreement with Widener University Commonwealth Law School to let students earn a bachelor's and law degree in six years—saving time and tuition as financial aid is handled by Widener.  Reading Eagle
  • At its board meeting on March 26th, the school board approved Dr. Khalid Mumin as Reading School District's next superintendent, replacing Dr. Jennifer Murray who will lead until June 13th. Dr. Mumin, a former district superintendent and state education secretary, will start on Monday, June 16th—bringing years of leadership to the district.  Berks Weekly
