  • The Fairy Godmother Project provided nearly 100 girls with free prom dresses and accessories at Blink Studio in Wyomissing on March 15, and volunteer mentors helped guide their choices.  Reading Eagle
  • On Friday, Mar. 20, PETA’s 'Hell on Wheels' pig truck visited downtown, parking outside Mofongo Restaurant (124 S. 5th St) to raise awareness about animal treatment by playing pig sounds while offering local restaurants vegan options and free Empathy Kits.  Berks Weekly

CULTURE NEWS

  • Friday's opening luncheon featured The Groovemasters at the Peanut Bar for the 35th Berks Jazz Fest, which will run through April with 45 jazz events planned in the community.  WFMZ-TV
  • The City of Reading will host a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, March 23 at 5 p.m. at City Park (by the basketball court stairs along Columbus Drive) to celebrate Greek Independence Day ahead of the official holiday on March 25, with Mayor Eddie Moran offering brief remarks.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • School officials, students, and community leaders joined in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, Mar. 19 at 817 N. Ninth St. The new Innovation Academy, opening for the 2026-27 school year, offers hands-on STEM classes where visitors toured modern labs and classrooms to explore career pathways.  Reading Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Crews are cleaning up today at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site after a storm damaged the park entrance, leaving an iconic tree partially standing and the picnic shelter and apple orchard closed while trails remain open for visitors.  WFMZ-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT crews will begin roadwork in Berks County from March 23 to March 27 with brush cutting and bridge repairs along Dunkels Church Road, Tilden Road, Interstate 78, Route 222, and US 422. Motorists should plan ahead for lane restrictions and delays in rainy weather.  Berks Weekly

  • The Ultimate Athletic Complex rebranded as The Yards Athletics today at its 48-acre facility on Wyomissing Road in Mohnton, unveiling plans for expanded programming such as adult soccer leagues, running races, flag football and sports camps to roll out throughout 2026 with Columbia Sports Group and 9Works Sports guiding operations.  Berks Weekly
