  • Berks County Public Libraries held its 23rd Annual Awards Celebration on Mar. 4 at its Leesport headquarters to recognize outstanding service from volunteers and community groups, including Berks Book Bonanza organizers Judy Ellsworth and Sherry Davis.  Reading Eagle
  • Helping Harvest Community Kitchen in downtown Reading surpassed 100,000 meals distributed since its early 2025 opening — it serves families facing food insecurity and will celebrate one year in mid-April after a record volunteer shift in February packaged 2,225 meals in two and a half hours.  Berks Weekly
  • Berks Book Bonanza is now accepting used books, DVDs, puzzles and games at Berks County South Campus in Mohnton; drop-offs are available Mondays and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays (Mar. 14, Apr. 11, May 9, Jun. 13) through Jun. 13.  Reading Eagle
  • Berks County began a yearlong 275th anniversary celebration at the Miller Center for the Arts Wednesday night in Reading, featuring music, a reenactor portraying Conrad Weiser, and local leaders recognizing the county's diverse roots+ additional events are planned through summer.  WFMZ-TV
  • Firefighters saved a cattle shed at Marion Township’s heifer farm on Tuesday after a tractor fire spread flames to the three sided shed; neighbors safely corralled cows as extra help arrived.  Reading Eagle
  • Last night, a kickoff event at Miller Center celebrated Berks County’s heritage with music, historical presentations and a video. County officials said more events will be held throughout the year as part of the 275th celebration.  WFMZ-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT announced Tuesday that $825,958 has been awarded to Sheetz to build an electric vehicle charging station at its store along Route 222 in Richmond Township — one of 12 such projects funded to boost EV access statewide.  Reading Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • Steven McLaughlin, 41, is testing his adaptive electric bike after a workplace accident paralyzed him in 2023. He received the bike through local donations & grants and now uses it at home for rehabilitation, dreaming of riding it outdoors when the weather improves.  Reading Eagle
  • Berks Community Health Center announced that James Toth (MBA, BSN, RN, FACHE) is its new Chief Operating Officer as of today. He, who joined as Director of Operations in 2024, will drive patient care improvements and operational growth.  Berks Weekly

  • On Wednesday, the Greater Berks Development Fund sold a 24-acre parcel on Van Reed Road in Bern Township to C&B Development LLC & construction of a 221,000 sqft building is approved and will begin in spring.  WFMZ-TV
  • Reading’s Welcome Sign project at the intersection of Route 422 and Penn Street was named a 2026 Top Project by Lehigh Valley Business during the Real Estate and Development Summit at DeSales University — completed after a 28-month rebuild following a 2023 accident.  WFMZ-TV
