COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WellSpring Financial launched a year-long 25 Acts of Kindness campaign to mark its 25th anniversary with food drives, blood donations and fundraisers for local charities. The initiative will take place at its offices in West Norriton, Pottstown, Wyomissing and Lower Macungie Township (firm founded in 2001) to build community ties.  Reading Eagle
  • Nativity BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church will host the 'All You Care to Eat Lenten Meal' from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, serving handmade pierogies, fish, and other dishes while a raffle supports veterans with clothing and scholarships for kids.  WFMZ-TV
  • An annual prom event offers donated dresses and mentorship for teens — it served over 135 young women last year, with many returning as volunteers to help. The growing program supports community youth during prom season.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • RSVP Volunteers will offer virtual math and literacy tutoring this summer to support students before school ends, and substitute volunteers can enroll to fill in as needed (background checks and training are required).  Reading Eagle
  • Kutztown University, Reading Area Community College and Alvernia University are set to receive state grants to help fight student hunger on campus. The schools will receive $60,000, $40,000 and $20,000 respectively under the Pennsylvania Hunger-Free Campus program.  Reading Eagle
  • Alvernia University’s Seniors College offers lifelong learning for adults 55 and older in Reading today at the McGlinn Conference Center (460 St. Bernadine Street), where community experts lead classes in history, literature, art, theology, current events, and health to keep minds active.  Reading Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PPL Electric reported nearly 200 scam attempts in the first two months of this year, and officials warned customers to hang up if calls pressure them to pay by gift cards or cryptocurrency (an advisory issued during National Consumer Protection Week).  WFMZ-TV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Crews are working on the new Broadcast District site in Spring Twp and expect building construction to start by late spring or early summer.  WFMZ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wilson sophomore Alivia Noecker won the shot put at the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association indoor state meet held Sunday at the Multisport Indoor Facility in State College; several other Berks athletes competed in various track events.  Reading Eagle
  • Record-setting McKaden Speece of Berks will face preliminary bouts at the PIAA 3A Wrestling Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., with his next win set to break the county wins record. The top senior, at 51-1, has committed to the U.S.-Naval-Academy.  Reading Eagle
