  • New Journey Community Outreach will host Saturday’s 'Coldest Night of the Year' 5K walk at Penn State Berks to raise funds for its warming center after severe cold claimed lives. Registration begins at 4 p.m. & the walk starts at 5 p.m.  WFMZ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 22nd annual Art of Jazz exhibit honoring local musician Frank Scott is on display at the Schmidt Gallery at GoggleWorks until March 18. It will move to the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading for Berks Jazz Fest on March 19 — a showcase of East Coast artists celebrating jazz.  WFMZ-TV
  • Singer-songwriter Koe Wetzel will bring his world tour to Reading this summer, giving local fans a chance to enjoy his country tunes at a local venue.  WFMZ-TV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Chester County Economic Development Council was certified as a Community Development Financial Institution by the U.S. Treasury after a two-year process and will now expand its lending+training programs under Ignite CDFI across nine counties to support minority+women owned businesses.  Reading Eagle

HEALTH NEWS

  • Raphie the mini horse has been visiting Reading Hospital Rehabilitation in Wyomissing every Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. to help stroke patients improve mobility and mood; the program funded by a one-year grant boosts both patient recovery and staff spirits.  Reading Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Schuylkill Valley defeated Big Spring 60-52 on Thursday night in the District 3 Class 4A consolation game, securing their playoff spot; the Panthers (16-10) will face the District 2 champion on Friday, Mar. 6.  Reading Eagle
  • Wilson beat Dallastown 42-37 in overtime to capture the District 3 6A girls basketball title tonight. The Bulldogs avenged a Dec. 22 loss and a 12-0 season and will face the District 1 11th-place team in the first round of state playoffs on Friday, March 6.  Reading Eagle
  • Kingston McKoy repeated as the BCIAA player of the year after averaging 21.7 points to lead his Berks Catholic team to a league title. The Saints will defend their title today at Garden Spot High School against Bishop McDevitt.  Reading Eagle
  • Wyomissing claimed the final playoff berth in Class 4A on Thursday night by beating Oley Valley 67-44 — Brady Eisenhower scored 21 points and the Spartans will face the District 12 champion Friday night.  Reading Eagle
