  • Reading Hospital, The Junior League of Reading and Berks Teens present Let’s Talk, Period — a free event on menstrual equity for teens and tweens — this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences, featuring panelists and period pampering kits.  Reading Eagle
  • Night to Shine celebrated 325 special needs guests in a prom night event at the PLEX last Friday in Reading+ hosted by Community Evangelical Church and Alvernia University. The event featured limousine rides, hair and makeup, a full dinner and volunteers who turned the venue into a winter wonderland.  WFMZ-TV
  • Connections Work will host a career fair on March 9 from 9 a.m. to noon at the DoubleTree by Hilton for people on probation, parole or with prior justice involvement. Over 30 employers and social service providers will assist job seekers (with fill out help and mock interviews).  Reading Eagle
  • Hershey Harvest in Laureldale is busy making hundreds of dozens of traditional fastnachts as local families order early to beat the crowd on Fastnacht Day before Lent begins.  WFMZ-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local singers practiced Monday night for the Gospel Jubilee organized by the NAACP in honor of Black History Month, and they will perform at 5 p.m. on Sunday at Francis Hall at Alvernia University.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wyomissing High School students won the 43rd annual regional MATHCOUNTS contest at Penn State Berks and will move on to state competition in March (top individual finishers from Boyertown and Wilson also advanced).  Reading Eagle
  • Alvernia University renewed its Carnegie Community Engagement Classification for 2026 (its third award), recognizing robust student service and local partnerships. The designation runs through 2032 and highlights its CollegeTowne investment and 40-hour service program for students.  Alvernia University

  • Residents in Reading face rising water damage risks as a thaw reveals broken pipes and melting ice dams. Lisa Lavender, CEO of Berks Fire Water Restorations, warns that service calls will likely increase when residents turn on outdoor water sources.  WFMZ-TV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Reading Hospital offers expert heart care in Berks County at its accredited chest pain center — delivering prompt treatment for heart attacks and advising residents to adopt healthy lifestyle habits to lower heart disease risks, per Dr. Charles F. Barbera.  Reading Eagle

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Abrams Realty Group plans to close the Berkshire Mall sale with a $1 million deposit in May. The developer will demolish most of the 910,000-sqft property in Wyomissing to build an open-air retail and mixed-use campus with big-box stores, medical offices and a fitness center (plans remain conceptual).  Reading Eagle

  • Tryouts for Reading's new arena football team are underway today in Exeter Township as players compete for spots. Final rosters will be released on April 10 & the team will start its season later in April.  WFMZ-TV
  • Four Berks teams are playing in the District 3 basketball tournament today at 7 p.m., with BCIAA girls champion Wilson — hosting Penn Manor in the Class 6A opener. Other games include Gov.
