COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Mt. Penn Fire Co. is hosting its 58th annual fastnacht sale tomorrow and Sunday at its station on Grant Street from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit the fire company while supplies last.  WFMZ-TV
  • Family Promise of Berks County marked 20 years of providing housing support to families and young adults. The nonprofit will host its 20th Anniversary Breakfast Celebration (April 25) to reaffirm its commitment to preventing housing insecurity in the community.  Berks Weekly
  • Berks Women2Women named ATHENA Leadership Award winner Trish Shermot and EmpowerHER Award recipient Nehal Trivedi, and the awards will be presented on March 4 during the annual Conference & Expo at the PLEX at Alvernia University (465 St. Bernardine St.) where speakers and breakout sessions will also be featured.  Reading Eagle
  • Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading & Berks County announced its Leaders & Legends Dinner for Monday, Mar. 30 at DoubleTree by Hilton Reading; former NFL coach Herm Edwards will headline an event that includes a VIP reception and honors partners while funding reopening sites to serve more youth.  Berks Weekly

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Miller Center for the Arts is unveiling its 2026 season, featuring music, dance, comedy, and free student shows at Reading Area Community College from Feb. 20 through June. The season includes events like a family opera on Feb. 20 and a shark conservation talk on March 5 & more.  Berks Weekly

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alvernia University chose SCHRADERGROUP Studio as architect and Heim Construction Co. as contractor for its American House project at Reading CollegeTowne (354 Penn St) in the Callowhill Historic District. Demolition began late 2025, with phase 1 finishing in May and a wall-breaking event scheduled for Feb. 25.  Berks Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT will begin road work projects next week in Berks County. The agency will enforce lane restrictions on US 222 and repair the US 422 bridge in Reading, while brush cutting will occur on I-78 and Dunkels Church Road, with crews working 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. + delays possible due to rain.  Berks Weekly

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wilson’s girls basketball team won the BCIAA title on Friday, Feb. 13 at Santander Arena by defeating Exeter 54 to 44, with Laila Jones scoring key baskets to secure Wilson’s first win since 2014.  Reading Eagle
  • Exeter’s Haley Schwenk and Wilson’s Aiden Hattendorf won the BCIAA singles championships Thursday at Hiesters Lanes, defeating opponents 203-184 and 205-201 from a 24-player field.  Reading Eagle

    Good Thyme For Life is an annual dining event in Berks County for Co-County Wellness Services, raising money for their mission of public health.
