BUSINESS NEWS

  • Lounge Around Games owners at Berkshire Mall face uncertainty after Wyomissing code enforcement issued a notice calling for urgent HVAC and pipe repairs by Friday to avoid safety issues. Tenants urge community members to seek answers about the mall’s future amid possible legal action.  WFMZ-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alvernia University launched its new online Ed.D. in Transformative Education for school and higher education leaders. The 48-credit program combines asynchronous classes, live sessions and brief residencies (including community college partnerships) to help professionals complete advanced studies in about three years.  Alvernia University
  • The Reading School Board proposed $41.8 million renovations for 12th and Marion Elementary School, which will add 12 new classrooms and separate spaces for the cafeteria and gym. Public comments (until Feb. 20) will be accepted, and construction is set to take two years.  Reading Eagle
  • The Boyertown School Board approved a $30,000 resin filtration system at Gilbertsville Elementary School—located on Congo Road—to remove PFAS chemicals from the water; installation is expected to begin over summer so the system is ready for next school year.  Reading Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 44-acre farm in Tilden Township is set to be preserved after receiving $133,820 in funding (with $24,399 from the state and $109,421 from the county) as part of a $7.1 million statewide investment that will protect prime farmland against future development.  Berks Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caramel’s Dog Park at Schlegel Park is closed effective immediately for a new lighting installation as part of the City’s GESA Sustainability & Modernization Project. Construction began today and will finish by Feb. 18, 2026, weather permitting, to enhance safety for visitors and workers.  Berks Weekly
  • Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday warns that romance scams are on the rise as Valentine’s Day approaches, with non-seniors targeted nearly as often as seniors, so residents should verify contacts and review online communications to protect their savings.  WFMZ-TV
  • A water main break in West Reading on Thursday caused some homes on the 300 block of Linden Lane to lose water service. The Public Works Department is repairing the break and expects service to resume within six to eight hours, and the borough assures residents their water is safe.  WFMZ-TV
