  • Wyomissing residents can join the annual Stargazing in the Parklands series on Friday, Feb. 27 — presented by the Borough’s Recreation Department with the help of the Berks County Amateur Astronomical Society — to enjoy clear winter skies and family-friendly telescope viewing from the West Slope of the Parklands.  Berks Weekly

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A gas leak forced residents along Claire Drive and Budd Street in Exeter Township (south of Route 422) to evacuate Saturday night and seek shelter at Dunn Community Center until UGI repaired the leak and power was restored by 3 a.m.  Reading Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Genesius Theatre announced its 55th season with productions running from Feb. through Dec., including 'The Behavior of Light,' 'Peter Pan' and 'Dracula.' Additional local events feature a fundraiser at Adler Brewing Co. on Feb. 12 and a senior high art exhibit at Yocum Institute.  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Feb. 1, Jamileth Rivera of Reading graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Academy of Culinary Arts after a four-month paid externship in Boca Raton and received a perfect attendance award. Alvernia University SEARCH Seminar students then collected soda tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities.  Reading Eagle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Local group CROWs (concerned residents) questions if the planned natural gas power plant and data center will bring benefits that outweigh risks like environmental decline, health issues and higher utility costs. They call for a careful review of the project’s impact on our community.  WFMZ-TV

  • PennDOT crews will begin maintenance work today on US 222 from the Lancaster County line to PA 73—additional brush cutting is planned on I-78, PA 645 and Dunkels Church Road from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. until Thursday, Feb. 5, with one-day work on Friday, Feb. 6.  Berks Weekly
  • The Berks County coroner’s office is looking for Candace Riehl’s next of kin after the 53-year-old from the Wernersville area died Sunday. Anyone with information is asked to call (610-478-3280).  Reading Eagle
