  • The YMCA of Reading & Berks County held its 167th Annual Meeting on Jan. 14, awarding staff through the CEO Choice Awards, honoring service milestones, and electing new board members — a clear sign of its commitment to community service.  Berks Weekly
  • The Reading Public Library announced its 2026 Board of Directors made up of community leaders (with President Kaitlin Daley, Vice President Arielle Phillips-Law, Secretary Keith Mooney, Esq., and Treasurer Alan Carman) to guide the library’s mission and help roll out its Strategic Plan for 2026 to 2030.  Berks Weekly
  • Schuylkill River Greenways and Barrio Alegría are inviting locals to share ideas for enhancing the Reading Gateway Bridge—a key link between Riverfront Park and West Reading—at a meeting Jan. 29 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the WCR Center for the Arts.  Reading Eagle

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Officials at the Jan. 21 economic development brunch hosted by TriCounty Area Chamber discussed rising energy costs, data center growth, and local projects in Pottstown and Boyertown (including new apartment developments and downtown improvements). They said regional collaboration will support industries, transit and housing affordability challenges.  Reading Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Alvernia University’s Total Experience Learning Institute will host 2026 Momentum Makers Summer Camps for rising 5th to 12th graders with hands-on sessions in STEM, arts, business, and more between mid-June and late July in Reading. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In West Reading, public works crews have been working nonstop to clear dry snow and keep roads safe amid bitter cold. Borough director Kerry Grassley (leading a team of eight) said crews across Berks County are braving worsening conditions as temperatures drop below 20 degrees and salt becomes less effective.  WFMZ-TV
  • The Reading Parking Authority extended free parking in city-owned garages through Thursday, Jan. 29 at 6:00 p.m. to support snow removal, though the 6th-Cherry lot remains reserved for emergency vehicles.  WFMZ-TV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Reading High's boys basketball team secured a 69-68 win on Saturday in a non-league game at Camden, N.J. Jostin DeCastro led the team with 33 points as Reading improved its record to 14-5.  Reading Eagle
