ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Wednesday, a vacant row home partially collapsed onto a sidewalk on Poplar, forcing four residents of an adjacent house to evacuate as officials ordered an emergency demolition in Reading to assess structural safety.  Reading Eagle
  • Exeter Township firefighters responded to a fatal house fire on the 1200 block of Dauphin Place early this morning (no smoke detectors were present), claiming one life and urging residents to check theirs.  WFMZ-TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Penn Entertainment Inc. reorganized its structure on Monday in Wyomissing to align digital assets and retail operations — two executives left and their roles were eliminated effective immediately. The company will seek a digital chief operating officer and update efficiency details with fourth quarter results in February.  Reading Eagle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mayor Eddie Moran’s annual Three Kings Day celebration took place Tuesday, Jan. 6 at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Penn St. Local performers including members of Grupo Folklorico Virgen del Quinche and Band Cantar Campesino preserved Latino traditions by offering toys + traditional music to children.  Reading Eagle
  • The WCR Center for the Arts launches a monthly Game Night for board games and community connection in its historic Reading space. The inaugural event is on Monday, Jan. 12 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and costs a $5 suggested donation, with youth (15 and under) joining with a guardian.  Berks Weekly

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • PennDOT announced that U.S. 422 in Lower Pottsgrove will see lane closures from Jan. 12 to Jan. 16 as part of an $83.6 million roadway reconstruction project. Motorists should allow extra travel time for expected delays.  Reading Eagle

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gov. Mifflin junior Bella Super reached the 1,000-point mark in a 59-55 win over Reading High on Tuesday night + joining 11 other scorers including record-holder Ashley Espinosa. The milestone adds to the program’s history of top performers.  Reading Eagle
  • Muhlenberg high school bowling teams won their matches at Heisters Lanes on Wednesday. Cameron Peffel led the boys with a 706 series — and Shelly Rohrbach guided the girls with a 629 series to secure a 3-0 sweep over Antietam.  Reading Eagle
